ALBERTINE - holiday cottage in DINAN old town

ALBERTINE is a self-contained stone cottage attached to Brenda's home in the historic town of Dinan which sits at the head of the Rance estuary in the Department of Cotes d'Armor (22) Brittany. The towns of Dinard, St Malo and Rennes are all within 40 minutes drive, or easy public transport links.

The cottage is situated just off the Rue du Petit Fort, a pedestrianised street which is a continuation of the Rue Jerzual leading down from the town centre to the river port.

The LOCATION is exceptional - peaceful, magical and convenient!

The ACCESS is challenging - steep, cobbled, and stepped!

Parking is nearby, unallocated, and not a problem! (Though you may wish to practise your hill starts…)

Access to the cottage is independent of the owner's house via a garden entrance.

The Accommodation

The Accommodation is 'cosy' but of an open design - good natural light and simple décor without loss of character.

  • The Lounge/Diner is comfortably furnished and faces out onto the garden.
  • The Kitchen Corner is more suited to preparing a cooked breakfast, simple lunch or supper than a four course gourmet meal. The facilities comprise Sink/Fridge/2 hotplates/small oven with grill/ electric kettle.
  • Stairs lead to the double bedroom with ensuite shower room and WC.
  • There is a continuous supply of hot water.
  • The cottage has central heating and a cast-iron coal-effect fire for comfort on those chilly summer evenings.
  • RadioCD Player provided. Iron and Board available. Use of owner's washing-machine by arrangement.

The Garden

Guests staying in Albertine have the use of Brenda's unique garden. Covering approximately a quarter of an acre it is sited on three levels linked by a spiral staircase and stone steps. Each garden has its own special appeal and offers stunning views over the rooftops of Dinan and to the hillside beyond.

As a passionate gardener Brenda will always be in the process of developing her ideas, though since taking on the challenge of this unusual site in 2005, already she has achieved wonders in the eyes of those who
saw 'the garden' as it was then, having been left to revert to the wild. Now she hopes you will discover 'a lush garden of controlled exuberance'...with secrets to be discovered.

She welcomes the opportunity of sharing her project with you - be it to wine and dine in the lower 'dry garden'; relax and sunbathe in the perfumed middle garden; or study the wildlife and stargaze in the upper woodland garden!
